France envoy discards compatriot’s potential escape

Santo Domingo.- France ambassador Jose Gomez said he’sconfident his compatriot Christophe Naudin, charged in the escape of two Frenchpilots convicted of drug trafficking, will be tried with due process anddiscards his potential escape.

He said he expects that his compatriot will "notsuffer any abuse."

Quoted by diariolibre.com, the French diplomat said Naudin receives assistance toensure his health and wellbeing, including clothing and medicine.

"There’s not the slightest risk of that gentleman’s escape,"Gomez said after attending a meeting on Climate Change attended by seniorgovernment officials.

Extradited from Egypt last Thursday, Naudin arrived in DominicanRepublic early Friday.

According to Justice minister Francisco Dominguez, Naudinwill be charged with migrant trafficking and conspiracy, and faces as long as10t years in prison if convicted.

He is charged in connection with the October escape of Frenchpilots Bruno Odos and Jean Pascal Fauret, sentenced to 20 years in prison for drugtrafficking.
