Medina inaugurates US$45M Sabana de la Mar-Miches road

Miches, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina onTuesday headed ribbon-cutting for the ??40-kilometer Sabana de la Mar-Miches road,part of the Eastern Road Circuit and the final span in the Bavaro-Uvero Alto-Miches-Sabanade la Mar road stretching 112 kilometers.

The 2-lane road built at a cost of US$45 million links thetowns La Gina, La Culebra, Las Cañitas and Magua, and features 11 bridges and131 culverts, said Public Works minister Gozalo Castillo.

He said the "modern road" links La Altagracia, ElSeibo and Hato Mayor provinces and fulfills the government’s decades-old promisemade to east region towns near resorts.

Road widening

Castillo said the work to widen the Hato Mayor-Sabana de laMar will start “very soon,” adding that the ferry from the latter to Samana willalso start operating soon.

Medina was accompanied by Marco Cruz, president of thecontractor Odebrecht in the Dominican Republic.
