San Francisco mayor ‘embezzled’ RD$400+ goes to trial

Santo Domingo.- The ofSanto Domingo province Appellate Court on Wednesday ruled for the prosecution’schallenge to the acquittal of SanFrancisco de Macoris mayor Felix Rodriguez, indicted in the embezzlement caseof more than RD$400 million from the City Council.

The decisions overturns a lower court ruling to acquit themayor of the country’s third biggest city, where protests against the officialhave been staged often with hundreds of people.

On March 27, 2015, Duarte province (northeast|) judgeVictor Mejia ruled to acquit Rodriguez, who’s now candidate for deputy for theruling party (PLD).
