Thousands fest trial of mayor ‘embezzled’ RD$400+

San Francisco, Dominican Republic.- Thousands of people on Thursday formed aspontaneous motorcade and a march to celebrate a court ruling that orders a criminaltrial against Felix Manuel Rodriguez Grullon, the mayor the third biggest Dominicancity.

Rodriguez, the also candidate for deputy for the ruling party(PLD) and codefendants others are charged with embezzling more than RD$400million from in the City Council.

The march and motorcade wound through the city’s various barriosand downtown neighborhoods.

Some participants waved pickets and banners with thealtered image of the mayor and the moniker "thief."

If elected deputy, Rodriguez would attain parliamentary immunityfrom normal prosecution by lower courts.
