Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic is among the fourcountries that have made progress in press freedom, according to the findingsof the Inter American Press Association’s (IAPA) biannual meeting which concludedits work in the country on Monday.
The country’s progress resulted from a Constitutional Courtruling which struck down parts of the Law on Expression and Dissemination ofThought, which had criminalized slander. He IAPA however notes that somearticles that criminalize the exercise of journalism still remain in theCriminal Code.
The conclusions of the IAPA’s 72 meeting recognizes fourcountries which in its view have made progress in the fight for freedom ofexpression and defense of the press in the region also figure Paraguay,Argentina and Cuba.
