Biggest power company takes plant offline as blackouts punish

Santo Domingo.- The power company AES Dominicana on Tuesdaysaid the Itabo plant’s Unit 2, with 132 megawatts of output, is temporarily outof service for the Annual Major Maintenance Program, part of the preventiveinspections schedule, “to maintain the availability, reliability and efficiencyof the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI).”

The information from the country’s biggest power company comesamid the return of nagging blackouts especially in Greatre Santo Domingo, wheresome sectors report interruption of electricity service as long as eight hours

It said the coordinator agency was informed of the referredmaintenance on April 4, and will last an average of 26 days, for which resumptionis expected for May 7.

“AES Dominicana at this time injects 633 megawatts into SENI,representing 33% of total generation online through their central AES Andres(300mg); Los Mina V (105); Los Mina VI (100 mg) and Itabo 1, 128 megawatts,”the power company said in an emailed statement.
