Icon Dominican capital hotel to get US$40M+ redo

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.- Barceló hotel chain plansto spend more than US$40 million (RD$1.8 billion) to remodel its hotel ElEmbajador, considered Dominican Republic’s first luxury lodging and one of the capitalcity’s icons.

Deputy Tourism minister Radhames Martinez Aponte, who madethe announcement at the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange DATE 2016, being heldthis week in Bavaro, Punta Cana (east), said the social areas and the historicfacility’s 289 rooms will be renovated.

With six decades of history, the Occidental Hotel El Embajadorwas subjected to extensive remodeling in 1998. It’s located in the city’supscale Bella Vista sector, where it was inaugurated in February, 1956.
