Downpours kill three, displace thousands, destroy and damage homes

Santo Domingo.- The constant downpours over the weekendclaimed the lives of three people, displaced 4,345, destroyed four homes and damaged865 others.

The deceased, Juan Isidro Quezada, 45, and his sons Yandeili14 and Yefri, 16 were swept away while swimming in a swelled Yaque del Norteriver, near Santiago’s El Pastor barrio.

Santiago Civil Defense said the three bodies were recoveredby crews of the Emergency Operations Center helped by Air Force choppers fromSantiago and Puerto Plata. They had been reported missing since Sundayafternoon.

On Monday the National Weather Office (Onamet) forecastedthat the rains will continue through Tuesday, as flash flood warnings continue.
