OAS election observers arrive in Dominican capital Tuesday

Washington.- The head of the Organization of AmericanStates (OAS) election observation mission for Dominican Republic’s generalelections will arrive in Santo Domingo Tuesday to join the observers alreadyworking in the country, EFE reports.

Colombian president Andres Pastrana will head the team ofobservers during the May 15 polls, with 38 international experts who areexpected to arrive in the country on Thursday, the OAS said in a statement Tuesday.

The team will analyze the various aspects of the pollingprocess in detail, including its organization and technology, political andelectoral financing, equity in political participation of men and women, andmedia analysis.

It will also gather information on compliance with therecommendations made during the last election observed by an OAS mission in thecountry, in 2012.
