Impunity: 22 years since one of Dominican Republic’s State crimes

Santo Domingo.-The Santo Domingo State University (UASD) on Thursday marked the 22 years sinceone of Dominican Republic’s most shameful State crimes committed with impunity,the disappearance of professor Narciso González (Narcisazo).

Deputy dean RafaelNino Feliz and other UASD officials laid a wreath at the bust of Gonzalez inthe campus where they demanded that Dominican authorities continue the investigationinto his disappearance on May 26, 1994, when several witnesses say he was apprehendedby police just days after accusing then president Joaquin Balaguer of electionsfraud.

Nino said it’sregretful that the government has yet to clarify the case which rocked thenation and Gonzalez’s family. “The UASD and the country demand a satisfactory response.”

In that regard,Truth Commission coordinator Mario Suriel asked president Danilo Medina toreceive their delegation in the National Palace, “because we have many thingsto talk about.”
