Dominicans among hurt in unexplained shootout at major NYC park

New York.- More than 1,600 people, including hundreds ofDominicans, who were enjoying a summer day Saturday evening in Van CortlandPark, located on Broadway and 242nd St. in the Bronx, ran in panicfrom an intense shootout that left at least three with bullet wounds.

What’s considered the city’s second largest park was thescene where gunfire surprised the large number of people who fled leaving food,drinks, snacks, garments, shoes and other belongings behind.

Around 50 police officers from the 50th Precinct,just 400 meters away from the shooting, arrived to control the melee and assistthe injured who were taken to St. Barnabas hospital, some in criticalcondition.

The cause of the incident has yet to be determined.
