Towns, NBA Rookie of the Year towers in height and heart

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s sports fans have reasonto be abuzz Tuesday with American-Dominican Minnesota Timberwolves center and phenomenonKarl-Anthony Towns Cruz, who unanimously won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award.

The honors comes on the very day, in May 1985, when thegreat Michael Jordan also received the award.

Towns, 7’0 feet tall, immediately informed that he will donatethe sponsors’ awards to the Minnesota-based Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, inhonor of Flip Sounders, Timberwolves head coach who died of cancer last Octoberat age 60.

"When I was told he had won the prize and was toreceive a Kia, the greatest thing I could think about was Debbie and Flip (Saunders)."
