Social Security health coverage reaches 70% of Dominicans

Santo Domingo.- nearly 70% of the population is affiliatedwith the Family Health Insurance whether in the contributory or subsidized regime,15 years after Law 87-01 created the Dominican Social Security System.

National Social Security Council director Rafael PerezModesto said membership in the family health insurance jumped from 46.2% inDecember 2011, to 68.5% at the end of the first quarter in 2016, or 2.3 millionpeople in the last 5 years.

He said membership by the most vulnerable people climbed 1.3million, from 46.6% coverage in December 2011, to 101.4% at the end of thefirst quarter of 2016.
