Major eastern city gets new bridge, paved streets, roads

Higuey, Dominican Republic.- Public Works minister GonzaloCastillo on Tuesday cut the ribbon on a bridge over the Duey River in eastern LaAltagracia province, and paved streets in sectors of Higuey.

He said the 2-lane, 82-meter long reinforced concrete bridgethat features a pedestrian walk and LED lighting is one of works were promisedby president Danilo Medina to representatives of La Altagracia province.

"President Danilo Medina instructed us to build sevenvital works for the development of Higuey, and we are carrying out that mandatetoday," the official said.

Castillo said the new bridge and the more than 40kilometers of paved streets and roads in Higuey will have an economic impact onits inhabitants, and contribute to develop the region’s tourism.
