Medina to attend Caribbean Summit in Cuba on Friday

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic president Danilo Medinawill travel to Cuba on Friday afternoon to attend the 7th Summit ofHeads of State and Government of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

Fresh from a decisive electoral win for his reelection,Medina is expected arrive in Cuba on Friday and return late Saturdayafternoon.

The ACS is the Greater Caribbean’s consultation,cooperation and concerted action organization for trade, transport, sustainabletourism and natural disasters.

In Cuba, the reception of Heads of State and Government is setfor the Palace of the Revolution at 8pm Friday. Half an hour later the hostswill offer participants an official dinner.

The conclave’s official opening will be 9am Saturday at theTheatre of the Palace of the Revolution.

The developments comes amid efforts for a dialogue between Caracas and the opposition, supported by aninternational commission which met with both parties, and separately, between lastFriday and Saturday in Punta Cana, eastern Dominican Republic.

This commission includes former Spain Prime Minister JoseLuis Rodriguez Zapatero, former Dominican Republic president Leonel Fernandez andformer Panama president Martin Torrijos.
