Telecom chief promises cheap, fast Internet in 2 years

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel) executivedirector Alberty Canela on Tuesday promised cheap and fast Internet in twoyears, when the optic fiber networks will be installed in the entire country.

The official said the government has already installed 219kilometers of optic fiber cable between Santo Domingo, Santiago and PuertoPlata, which he affirms expedites the development of the country’s telecomindustry.

He said as the regulator, Indotel monitors the installationof optic fiber, to guarantee the best work.

"At firs we were requesting 30 million dollars toinstall optic fiber, but since we have it, we’re talking around eight milliondollars," Canela said prior to laying a wreath at the Altar of the Nationto mark World Telecom Day.
