Agents seize 1,645 lbs. of drugs, US$964,335 in cash

Santo Domingo.- Dominican authorities seized 748 bricks (around1,645 lbs.) of drugs and US$964,335 in cash during an operation that led to thearrest of 12 people, accused of forming partof a powerful drug trafficking and money laundering structure.

Among the detainees figure three Venezuelans, a Colombian,seven Dominicans, including three women, and a Haitian being questioned at Antinarcotics(DNCD) headquarters, which said it would release their names in due time.

Of the haul, 648 bricks were seized in the upscale sectorLos Cacicazgos, hidden in a pit in a bathroom of house number 209 Hatuey St.,where the Colombian and the Haitian were detained after they tried to flee in aDodge minivan when the agents arrived.

In another raid of the same case, US$964,335 in cash wereseized in a house on Bavaro St. of the Sans Souci sector, Santo Domingo Este, wherethe three Venezuelans five Dominicans were arrested. Also sized were five vehicles of variousbrands.
