Dominican Republic Army halts 400 illegal border crossings daily

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Army daily stops asmany as 400 people trying to enter the country illegally at all crossings alongthe border with Haiti.

Army commander Jose Eugenio Matos on Monday said people aredetained in the mountains, in river gorges and ravines, and handed over to the ImmigrationAgency, to deport them if applicable.

The official also announced that 420 Army soldiers now gettingtraining in public safety will join the police by the end of June when they’ll graduate.

Matos said Defense minister Maximo William Muñoz ordered themeasure on Friday.
