Dominican Govt. hails Colombia’s ‘historic reconciliation’

Santo Domingo.- The government of the Dominican Republic onThursday hailed as a "historic reconciliation" the definitivecease-fire agreement between the Colombian Government and that country’s guerilla(FARC), signed in Havana, Cuba, where president Danilo Medina attended as awitness, together with other leaders of the region.

“The historical event portrayed sincere images of a shareddecision, a ceasefire and disarmament, in addition to the firm wordsby president Juan Manuel Santos, saying that it’s time to know that peace ispossible and that it must be built, and the commander of the FARC, TimoleonJimenez (Timoshenko), by stating that peace brings them closer than ever,” the Presidencysaid in a statement.

The ceremony made it clear that despite the pending issues,"we are convinced that the future of Colombia is peace," as JuanManuel Santos and Timoleon Jimenez agreed to note.
