Medina lauds the Cardinal on prelate’s 25th anniversary

Santo Domingo.- PresidentDanilo Medina on Wednesday congratulated Archbishop Nicolas de Jesus CardinalLopez Rodriguez for the 25th anniversary since being designated Cardinal of theDominican Republic.

The head of state said he joins the Catholic faithful and prelatesin their joy of recognizing Lopez’s “excellent work.”

In a statement on the presidency website, Medina also stressedhis admiration, his friendship and respect for the Archbishop of Santo Domingo,“for his continued dedication to proclaim and spread the Word of God, “in an admirablemission in which parallel has been devoted to the service of the Dominicanpeople and the defense of our nationality.”

"I thank God Almighty, asking, on behalf of theGovernment and on my own behalf, abundant blessings for you and your work ofextraordinary significance and spiritual value."

Medina’s message comes less than 24 hours after BobSatawake, husband of US ambassador and gay activist James W. Brewster, said heawaits the Cardinal’s apology for allegedly discriminating against the LBGT community.
