One of the most feared generals dies at 89

Santo Domingo.- Former Armed Forces secretary Ramon EmilioJiménez died 11 am Thursday, but detains on the wake and burial haven’t been announced. He was 89.

Jimenez, one of the few remaining generals that struck fear on the population during the regimes of the late president Joaquin Balaguer, also held other governmentposts including the presidency of scandalous Plan Renove, during Hipolito Mejia’sadministration.

Jiménez was one of the military leaders who challengedBalaguer in 1975, but was also accused of carrying out his order to execute revolutionaryhero Col. Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deño’ in 1973.

Among his military National Police colleagues who alsostruck fear figured generals Neit Nivar Seijas, Salvador Lluberes Montas andEnrique Perez y Perez.
