Jarabacoa announces annual Festival of the Flowers

Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic.- The highland city of Jarabacoa on Monday announcedits 7th annual Festival of the Flowers, fromJune 24 to 26, with the support of the Tourism and Culture ministries and the JarabacoaCity Council, among other sponsors.

Festival spokeswoman Alba Yris Rodriguez this year’s attractionsinclude floats, the festival parade and an exhibit of flowers elaborated withvarious materials, worked by craftsmen.

“There will be a contest of gardens. Nurseries will havespaces 4 x 5 to install spectacular and enchanting gardens to compete forawards offered by the festival,” she said.

Rodriguez said the prizes include RD$30,000, RD$20,000 andRD$10,000 for first, second and third place..

Among the other competitions figure ladies’ hats andumbrellas; horses and donkeys decorated with flowers, and a contest of pasofino horses, and the Ride of the Flowers, both on Saturday afternoon, June 25.
