Riding a boom, Dominican Republic touts its exports

Santo Domingo.- "RD Exporta 2016" exhibit, thelargest platform to promote the country’s export supply to internationalmarkets, was inaugurated Monday night with the keynote speech by DominicanRepublic Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) director Jean Alain Rodriguez.

The official said the Government contributes to the exportsector, noting that Dominican ambassadors and consuls abroad have now becomeagents who promote their country.

Rodriguez stressed the more than 3,700 product lines thecountry exports to 170 countries. The event taking place at the San Souci ConventionCenter is open to the public.

Rodriguez invited everyone to visit the exhibitions andparticipate in conferences and free workshops that will be available on Tuesday.

Vice president Margarita Cedeño headed the inaugural accompaniedby Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo, among other officials.

Exports

Rodriguez said while Dominican Republic’s exports have climbedin the last four years, those of its main regional competitors have declined inthe same period.

He said the country’s exports have jumped nearly 15%, whilethe efforts to obtain certification of quality have led to around 40% fewershipments being retained in US ports.
