Public Works widens the famous Malecon

Santo Domingo.- Public Works is widening the seasideboulevard El Malecon (30 de Mayo highway) between Lincoln and Luperón avenues.

Crews rip out the avenue’s south sidewalk to add a new laneexpected to ease East-West traffic in the busy district. Other works include returnlanes all along the Caribbean coast.

Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo said the work ispart of the project to improve traffic in the capital. He said the work startednearly 20 days ago and have made considerable progress.

“The work improve traffic not only in this area. They don’taim to interfere or harm nature, but to facilitate traffic along El Malecon. Thetrees to be removed will be planted elsewhere, with 250 more," Castillo said,adding that the work being done across the city aims to deal with traffic in GreaterSanto Domingo.
