Unchecked Gov. spending could bring instability, Big business warns

Santo Domingo.- National Business Council (CONEP) presidentRafael Blanco on Wednesday called on the Government to push for a FiscalResponsibility Law that places safeguards and enforces compliance on the use ofthe public budget, the deficit and the public debt.

Blanco said uncontrolled public spending, especially duringelection campaigns, could destabilize the country socially and economically.

"We consider it essential to have a proper regulationon the use of state funds and public institutions for purposes of electoralcampaigns."

The CONEP president’s remarks came in his keynote speech atthe American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic’s (AMCHAMDR) monthlyluncheon.
