Santo Domingo.- After nearly taking it last year, typical merengueicon Fefita La Grande on Tuesday wont El Gran Soberano, Dominican Republic’s highestshowbiz distinction.
Dominican National Brewery president Franklin Leon and the ArtCritics Association president Jorge Ramos handed the statuette to Fefita at theend of the annual gala in the National Theatre.
"It is truly an honor, I am happy and pleased topresent this award to the Dominican Republic," Fefita said.
The typical merengue star, born Manuela Josefa Cabrera in SantiagoRodriguez was the big winner in the 32nd annual event, produced by EdileniaTactuk.
Her win comes just one week after performing with her accordionin a show at the United Palace Theater in New York, to celebrate her 50thanniversary in show business.
