Shots fired in biggest Dominican prison

Santo Domingo.- Shots have been fired in Dominican Republic’sbiggest correctional facility, La Victoria, reportedly over control of drug traffickingand other businesses with the prison.

Justice Ministry spokeswoman Tessie Sanchez said theincident stemmed from the transfer ofsome inmates to other prisons, but didn’t confirm or deny the reports of gunfire.

Recent media reports describe various businesses within the prison, which move as much asRD$33 million, including drug trafficking, prostitution and food.
