Trial for Chinese brothers nabbed with 1,372 sea turtle shells in NW

Montecristi, Dominican Republic.- The Montecristi InstructionCourt on Thursday ordered a criminal trial against two Chinese nationals whowere arrested with 1,372 sea turtle shells during a raid in the town of PepilloSalcedo (northwest) November last year.

The brothers Shenghuan and Shenghai Wu were arrested by DominicanNavy sailors after an anonymous tip by phone that they allegedly transported ina vehicle hawksbill turtle shells and parts.

Last November the court barred the Wus from leaving thecountry, and ordered periodic appearance at the Office of the Prosecutor whilethe Justice Ministry investigating the case. They had been released on bond ofRD$30,000 each.
