Cabarete to host 8th annual butterfly effect

Cabarete, Dominican Republic July 14th 2016. The ButterflyEffect will land once again in Cabarete on July 14th -16th 2016, encouraginggirls and women of all ages to get out on the ocean and experience a sharedcamaraderie and unity with other water-women. The Butterfly Effect is a fun andnon-competitive event, and is aiming to instill self-confidence and a love forthe ocean in women of all skill levels.

Local and visiting women will gather on the beach ofCabarete to complete either a 2km beginner paddle course or a 4km advanceddownwind ride from Cabarete Bay to Playa Encuentro. The women will bewindsurfing, kite surfing, kayaking or stand-up paddling. The event includessafety and stretching sessions, as well as food and gear from local sponsors,and fund-raising for local charities.

The Butterfly Effect began in Hawaii in 2007. TatianaHoward, the founder of the event, is an avid water woman who enjoyswindsurfing, surfing, kite surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, and tow insurfing. This is the 10th year the event has taken place and the 8th year thatCabarete has hosted a Butterfly Effect. Since its inception, it has flown toBrazil, New Zealand, France, Hood River Oregon, Lake Tahoe, Dominican Republic,Germany, Italy, Israel, Tahiti, Fiji, Sweden, Switzerland and Australia.

The founders believe that water sports provide a healthyand fun lifestyle that give those who participate in them great happiness andself-confidence. They have been fortunate to be involved in these sports andwant to share and instill the lessons they have learned with women worldwide.

Giving back

Fundraising efforts associated with the Butterfly Effectwill go to the DREAM Project. The Dominican Republic Education And Mentoring(DREAM) Project is a US 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides qualityeducation for all children born into poverty in rural areas and smallcommunities of the Dominican Republic. Our butterflies will participate withsome of the DREAM Project kids in a group beach cleanup within Cabarete Bay.

Get involved

Registration for the event will be held at Velero BeachResort on Thursday July 14st from 6:30pm–9:30pm. A late registration will takeplace at Vela Cabarete on Saturday July 16th at 9:30 am. The event will beginat 10:30am on Saturday July 16th. All participants will meet at Vela Cabarete.A live auction benefitting The Dream Project will be held during the closingceremony at TUVA Restaurant on Saturday July 16th at 8pm.
