Social programs are businesses’ duty: Las Americas Free Zone

Santo Domingo.- LasAmericas Industrial Free Zone president Claudia Pellerano on Wednesday said businesseshave the duty to promote and carry out stronger corporate social responsibilityprograms, together with cooperatives to improve the standard of living of itsemployees and surrounding communities.

In that regard the president of the free zone’s cooperative,Jesus Fernandez, said there’s a need to promote education, work and savingsthrough cooperatives, to spur development and wealth in communities.

Pellerano and Fernández spoke during the delivery of 80awards to as many outstanding students of the Hermanas Mirabal Education Center,in El Valiente, Santo Domingo Este, which the cooperative has sponsored forover 7 years, with a virtual library and other facilities for learning.

The event also included the opening of a mini recyclingsystem and the announcement of donation of sports uniforms to more than 800 ofits students.
