January-May Economic Activity Index climbs 7%: Central Bank

Santo Domingo.- The Central Bank on Thursday said DominicanRepublic’s Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) grew 7% from January to May, “whichplaces it above its growth potential.”

The Central Bank provided the information in its MonetaryPolicy Meeting, where it decided to keep its interest rate at 5.0% annually.

“Market expectations forecast that inflation would convergeto the lower limit of the target by the end of this year,” it said on itswebsite.

"In May, the annual rate of inflation stood at 1.71%,influenced by inflation of 0.25% occurred in the month, accumulating a rate ofchange in the consumer price index of -0.42% in the first five months of theyear. The annual core inflation stood at 1.56%."
