Industries: First the electric pact then fiscal agreement

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic Association Industries (AIRD)president Campo de Moya on Wednesday said prior to starting any debate on theFiscal Pact and other initiatives, to conclude the talks for an agreement on electricityis necessary and appropriate.

De Moya also said society’s different sectors should focusthe discussion to reach the Electrical Pact and subsequently address otherpriority issues such as the Fiscal Pact.

"The business sector has stated and we agree with theauthorities before starting any discussion on the Fiscal Pact the ElectricalCovenant should be completed, leading us to reform the electricity sector by consensusto eliminate or substantial reduce the electricity sector and, therefore,significantly reduce the fiscal deficit," de Moya said, speaking at the Corripiomedia group’s weekly luncheon.

He said the lack of institutions is what has allowedcorruption in the country and the constant violation of rules and laws.

The industrial leader was accompanied by AIRD vicepresident Circe Almánzar, Hotels and Tourism Association (ASONAHORES) presidentSimon Suarez, ASONAHORES executive director Andrés Marranzini, ElectricityIndustry Association president (ADIE) Roberto Herrera, ADIE vice president MiltonMorrison, Dominican Free Zones Association (ADOZONA) president Jose TomasContreras and ADOZONA vice president Jose Manuel Torres.
