Low pressure system drenches Dominican Republic, could strengthen

Santo Domingo.- The National Weather Office (ONAMET) on Thursdaywarned of heavy downpours today and tomorrow Friday, while the EmergencyOperations Center (COE) expanded its flash flooding alert to most of thecountry.

Moreover the Miami based National Hurricane Center warnsthat a low pressure system will cause hurricane force winds over the waters of DominicanRepublic’s north coast today Thursday.

The US agency cautions that regardless of its strength, thesystem’s cloud mass will cover much of the country, with downpours and possiblelandslides. All regions are under a flash flooding alert, except the Southwest.

The National Hurricane Center says the low-pressure systemhas a possibility of a 50% strengthening during the next 48 hours.
