Dominicans shouldn’t have any restriction to Web access: Expert

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic Information Society’sCharter of Principles, agreed by experts and various organizations, states that" there shouldn’t be any restriction to Internet access," calling it,"an universal right for people living in the country.”

The document was released by Amparo Arango, president ofthe Internet Society, Dominican Republic Chapter and in charge of InternationalRelations of the Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel).

She said the Charter was validated in a participatory effortwith various organizations, groups and voices of Dominican society of civilsociety, government agencies, private sector, universities, independentprofessionals, journalists and many more.

Arango, quoted by acento.com.do, cited the workshop "Validation of the earlyInternet in the Dominican Republic" held in Beijing, headed by Peruvianexpert Eric Iriarte, as the regulatory framework and Internet governance.

She said Dominican Republic’s Charter of Principles of theInternet will be made available to representatives of relevant sectors, and thankedGLOBAL ISOC through the program Beyond the Net and local partners PUCMM andINDOTEL, “for always supporting the processes which have consolidated thecountry’s Internet governance.”
