Dominican Republic Golf Travel Exchange to bolster the country’s golf dominance

Santo Domingo.- The third edition of DR Golf, the only platformspecialized in marketing the Dominican Republic as a golf destination, aims tostrengthen the country as the capital of golf tourism in the Caribbean in 2016.

From Sept. 10 to 15 at Punta Cana’s Barceló BavaroPalace Deluxe resort in will be held the third edition of the DominicanRepublic Golf Travel Exchange 2016, said on Tuesday Teddy De Lara, president of TARGETMarketing Consultants, organizers of the event.

"I am pleased to announce the third version of theDominican Republic Golf Travel Exchange or DR Golf 2016 edition will definitelymark its solidification in the national tourism calendar and the agenda of allinternational golf tour operators and suppliers, most of whom have already formalizedtheir registration," De Lara said.

In this regard he said "for this 2016, DR Golf willfeature the participation of more than 100 international delegates from variousdestinations in the world, including new countries that will join in this edition."

"Every year DR Golf has been designed with a specificgoal and this time the purpose is to consolidate the Dominican Republic as whatit is: the Caribbean’s Mecca of golf tourism, and for that we’ve created a programwith activities of various kinds that help to strengthen our position," theexecutive said.

De Lara said DR Golf is a gathering of professionals, “characterizedby an integrative synergy around the golf tourism and the enthusiasm of allinternational representatives who have already endorsed this event, who like totravel the country, playing in our unrivaled courses and also enjoy Dominicanculture.”

DR Golf’s agenda includes a specialized seminar, a workshopamong international tour operators and local suppliers; and a three-day golftournament and will be held at Iberostate Golf (Iberostar Grand Punta Cana inBavaro), Dye Fore (Casa de Campo in La Romana) and The Lakes golf (Barceló BavaroPalace Deluxe in Bavaro). It also includes social activities and theopportunity to participate in various excursions.

“DR Golf is an excellent opportunity for the DominicanRepublic to showcase its full potential for golf tourism, an increasinglygrowing and high end consumption niche,” the promoter said.

Between 2014 and 2015 golf tourism growth in the countrywas estimated at 10%, with over 140,000 golfers who came only to play golf.

De Lara noted that the Dominican Republic boasts over 25championship golf links, seven of which have a total 86 holes in which you can playalong the seashore, “more than what any other Caribbean destination offers andwhat makes the country the leader and best in the field.”

DR Golf Travel Exchange is held under the auspices of theInternational Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), the National Hotelsand Restaurants Association (ASONAHORES) and the Tourism Ministry.
