NYC Dominicans sway to their parade, despite unprecedented security

New York.- The dozens of heavily armed Anti-Terrorist Squadpolice with trained dogs and other special equipment cordoned off the route toprotect New York’s Dominican Parade 2016, held Sunday afternoon along Avenue ofthe Americas (6th Av.) in Manhattan where as in previous years,enjoyed by thousands of natives to showcase Dominican culture, customs andhistory.

The policemen armed with military equipment such assubmachine guns, and long-range rifles were deployed at strategic points alongthe route of the parade, which started at 38th St. and ended at 52ndSt.

The parade that was first staged in 1982 was dedicated thisyear to the Mirabal sisters, and empowerment of Dominican women as the centraltheme.

Music icon Juan Luis Guerra was named parade Grand Marshal andmounted the Organizing Committee carriage, saying he was happy to extol Dominicanpride.
