Canadian embassy awards scholarships

Santo Domingo.- CanadianAmbassador in the Dominican Republic Steve Côté held a meeting with the Dominican studentswho were selected for scholarships as part of the Canadian government’s EmergingLeaders of the Americas Program (ELAP).

Thirty-three students from the Santo Domingo TechnologicalInstitute (Intec), the PUCMM University, the Ibero-American University (Unibe) andthe Santo Domingo Autonomous University (UASD) will spend six months studyingin Canadian universities.

The Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Vancouver IslandUniversity, Université du Québec Trois-Riviéres, University of Saskatchewan,Niagara College, University of Regina, Kings University College at UWO,University of New Brunswick, Université de Québec Montreal, St Mary’sUniversity, Ryerson University, Nova Scotia Community College, ConfederationCollege, University of Ontario Institute of Technology, St Francis XavierUniversity, Concordia University at Edmonton and College of the Rockies, willbe hosting the Latin American students. They will be studying during the fallor winter semester, depending on the program selected.

The Canadianambassador congratulated the students and encouraged them to make the most ofthe experience on the cultural as well as academic level

He also expressed his satisfaction at the increased number of studentsparticipating in the program this year. To date, 177 Dominican students havebeen awarded scholarships as part of ELAP.
