Customs seizes assault rifles at busy port

Santo Domingo.- A cache of assault rifles, a shotgun, ammoand weapons accessories was seized by Customs officials during searches Wednesdayat Haina Oriental Port.

Among the figure assault rifles seized figure an AR-15, anM-4 and M-16 and one FAL, together with a large number of boxes of ammunition. Alsoseized were a large number of clips and components for firearms.

The weapons were found inside containers and covered with tarps,consigned to Sandy Cargo Express Company. The ship came from Miami, Florida.

Customs officials said investigators aim to locate anotherpart of the cargo and establish possible links to the smugglers.
