Officials discuss controls on foreigners, concern over unclaimed IDs

Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police minister CarlosAmarante and Immigration director William Muñoz on Thursday headed a workshop todiscuss among other topics, the National Plan to Regularize Foreigners, whichis in its final phase.

Migration flows to and from the DominicanRepublic were also reviewed in the meeting, from the public safety perspective.

Senior Immigration and Interior and Policeofficials also attended the meeting to analyze and coordinate the measuresby the various state security agencies to prevent the entry of people linked tocrime from entering Dominican territory.

Over 22,000 ID cards await foreigners

Amarante and Muñoz expressed concern over thehigh number of foreign nationals who’ve yet to retrieve their ID cards, currentlytotaling 22,845.
