Milestone: major US city has a Dominican police chief

New York.- Luis A. Guzman made history Wednesdaywhen he took the oath as the first Dominican chief of police in a major UScity, Passaic, New Jersey.

Guzman was sworn in by mayor Alex Blanco, acompatriot native of the dominican city La Vega, who stressed the merits of thenew police chief, during his career in law enforcement.

The former Passaic deputy chief of police hasbeen in the force for 27 years, and replaces Rosario Capuana who retired.

Guzman told a packed hall of council members,community leaders and reporters that he accepts the post with humbeness and pledged

the department of 150 members and will try,from now services Passaic police are professional, friendly and responsive tothe people.
