Santo Domingo.- The European Union and theAssociation of Caribbean States (EU-CELAC) on Monday inaugurated their XLVIIImeeting which seeks to bolster cooperation programs and assess progress in the regionalorganizations’ joint plans.
Among the meeting’s topics figure publicsafety, job creation, student exchanges and climate change.
In his welcome speech Dominican Foreignminister Miguel Vargas said stronger bi-regional ties by working together for abetter world for all is the meeting’s main objective. "I appeal to youthat your efforts are oriented towards consensus, under a constructive spirit,aimed at reconciling positions, putting aside what separates us, to focus onthe goals that unite us."
After the speech, the 30 ministers and delegationsfrom 59 countries participating in the summit began the technical meetingsbehind closed doors.
All American countries form part of theCELAC, except the United States and Canada.
