Trade fights poverty better than aid, Medina says

Santo Domingo.- Dominican president DaniloMedina on Monday said trade is more effective than solidarity to fight poverty,and asked to establish clear and fair rules in the global markets.

In his inaugural speech for the Community ofLatin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) meeting in Santo Domingo, Medina sayallowing the region’s products to enter European markets is a tool to fightpoverty, since in his view, it’s more transformative and effective than any aidpolicy for development.

Medina spoke at the start of the FirstMeeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of CELAC and the European Union, which gathers30 foreign ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean Statesand 59 delegations.
