Ex, current Dominican consul in NY clash over ‘mistreatment’

New York.- Dominican consul in New YorkCarlos Castillo on Thursday said he will not retract what he revealed last weekof having found "bad practices" in the consulate, because he considershimself a person who tells the truth.

Castillo responded to a demand by hispredecessor Eduardo Selman, during an interview Monday on Z-101FM, over the allegation that Consulate employeesmistreated Dominicans who went to request documents.

"I don’t want to get into a back andforth of the interpretations of the statements that I offered, because Irespect and admire the colleague Selman, and in no time did we mention him.What I am saying is that I will not retract what I said, in the sense thatpeople who do commit bad practices in this administration will be removed fromoffice," the diplomat said, quoted by elnuevodiario.com.do.

I would recant if he were voicing someslander," Castillo said after a meeting with several Dominican elected officialsin the city.
