Gov. bans Christmas gifts by officials, agencies

Santo Domingo.- The Presidency on Wednesday announceda ban on Christmas gifts, including baskets, beverages and other gratuitiesfrom public funds, an obligatory provision for all Executive Branch officials.

The memo signed by Presidency chief of staff GustavoMontalvo excludes the government´s social assistance agencies that purchasesfood baskets to donate them to poor families during Christmas.

"Prioritizing the proper use of publicresources is the only way to be able to target the areas and people who needthem the most," Montalvo said.
