Santo Domingo.-  Plantain Power, that’s right, the strength from the humble fruit of the tropical Plantaginaceae plant, has propelled the Dominican Republic to the lead in the World Baseball Classic, with three electrifying wins, Canada, the United States and Colombia, the latter in an extra-inning thriller.

The 10-3 win over Colombia is the Dominican team ‘s 11th consecutive victory, and avoided playing an extra game in the first round of Group C, the Classic and maybe elimination in Miami’s Marlins Park stadium.

The win over the US was also record-setting, with over 37,000 fans in Marlins Park.
