Environment demolishes fishermen shacks on Puerto Plata beach

El Tablon beach

Sosua, Dominican Republic.- The Environment Ministry on Wed. tore down shanties built by the Sosua’s Fishermen Association at El Tablón beach, Puerto Plata province.

National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA) officers dismantled the shacks on instructions from Environment minister Francisco Domínguez.

The measure stems from a complaint filed against the group on February 17, which was subsequently subpoenaed but failed to respond.

Domínguez issued the instructions on March 17, with a deadline of 15 days, but the fishermen ignored the various warnings which led to the dismantling of the shacks.
