Puerto Rico-Dominican ferry returns, will spur tourism, trade

Santo Domingo.-  The company Ferries del Caribe resumed its service which reactivates tourism and trade by plying the Puerto Rico-Dominican Republic route.

Since the late 1980s the company has transported 1.8 million passengers, and estimated to reach 175,000 per year, with a total capacity of 546,000 annually.

Ferries del Caribe CEO Néstor González García said the new boat service creates 200 direct and 500 indirect jobs, “for a total of 700 jobs that will be occupied by Dominicans as well as by Puerto Ricans in each of the areas that make up the structure of the company.”

He said the ferry route from Puerto Rico to the port of Santo Domingo will sail every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and from Santo Domingo will depart Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
