´Wall´of peril along border
Santo Domingo.- former National Border Council, president Radhamés Batista on Wed. proposed to develop a farming project along the border to president Danilo Medina, creating military-agrarian settlements.
He also suggested creating a military agrarian institute at the border to manage the project.
Batista said a pilot project can house at least 100 military personnel in border towns, noting that if his proposal is extrapolated to the 275 kilometer-long frontier, it will function as the longed-for protective wall.
In a letter to Listín Diario editor-in-chief Miguel Franjul, the former official said time’s ripe to develop the plan, since Medina ordered a vast forestry development project in the Sierra de Neiba (west), planting of trees to prevent and counteract predation, which he affirms accompanies Haitian manual labor.
