Santo Domingo.- Investing to develop clean energy to reduce costs and mitigate energy generation’s impact on the environment is a challenge that the country has to assume, according to Rafael Velazco, president of the Energy Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (Amchamrd).
He said that around 54 industries have natural gas as a production alternative for which there are already 35 stations.
“However, the Dominican Republic, although advancing in that way, is well behind where it should be,” the expert notes as the reason why Amchamdr will host the Clean Energy Forum 2017 at Hotel Embajador on June 8, which seeks to create interaction among all market actors.
Velazco said international speakers include Todd Garner, CEO of Protec Fuel Management, LLC, one of the leading companies in the renewable fuel industry; Bernerd Da Santos, CEO of US-based AES Global; Environment minister Francisco Domínguez and a panel of renewable energy experts. “In the medium term the country must assume a greater participation of energy of clean and renewable origin and adjust the Incentive Law.”
