Santo Domingo.- The Tourism Ministry and the Ramón Pané Foundation on Wed. agreed to promote religious tourism with a strategy focused on presenting to the world the history and sites where the spread of the Catholic faith began in America.

They announced a seminar that will bring 100 young Catholic leaders from various countries to learn the history and places of the beginnings of the Christian faith in the Americas and the life of Fray Ramón Pané, the New World’s first evangelizer.

The activity will be held in Puerto Plata in September with the participation of young Dominicans.

In a statement, Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia said for that purpose, a Foundation commission met with several Dominican bishops, and Manuel Quiterio Cedeño programs director and digital strategy projects advisor in Dominican Republic.

“The country has the premises of faith and the evangelization of the New World, which is a great attraction and diversifies our offer as the leading tourism destination in the Caribbean,” said Garcia.

Update: Papá Liborio, the ¨Mulatto God,” was assassinated along with several followers near San Juan de la Maguana in 1923.
